Pittville

Pittville is a picturesque suburb nestled within Cheltenham. Home to Prestbury Park racecourse where the annual Cheltenham racing festival takes place and Pittville Park with its serene lake, recreational facilities and lush green spaces ideal for walks and outdoor gatherings. It is one of the largest ornamental parks in Cheltenham, divided by Evesham Road and is a very popular residential area.

Additionally, Pittville is famous for its historical Pittville Pump Room, an elegant Regency-style building that once served as a spa where visitors could sample the town’s mineral waters. Today the Pump Room hosts events, exhibitions, and occasional musical performances.

You will find the much loved Boathouse Café located on the edge of the boating lake near the skate park and the tennis court. Bursting with charm and brimming with a delicious array of cakes, pastries, and sandwiches. The Heritage Deco Café at Pittville Pump Room is ideal for breakfast or for an afternoon tea and cake to take in the ambience of the park in its entirety. Finally, the Central Cross Drive Café, a little gem at the foot of the park for light bites, drinks, and ice creams.

History fact

Joseph Pitt had a vision to create Pittville as a rival to Cheltenham itself with the idea to build 600 houses in 100 acres and boast its own Pump Room, walks, rides, and gardens. Unfortunately, when it was opened in 1830, the property market had taken a slump and only 20 houses were built. A much slower development with 216 houses completed and eventually in 1860 the council purchased the entirety.
